Talking about Future - Megacities and Climate

Updated: Jun 9, 2022

Megacity is now becoming an important subject for geographers to investigate the issues of social economy, climate change, land use conversion, and environmental quality in the regional scale. These 10mil urban areas have become important index to analyze and simulate the climatology between human activity and environment.

The issues surrounding this topic is that megacity are accompany by greater urban metabolism, which includes more resource uptake, negative products and urban respiration. The interaction between these enormous human living landscape with atmosphere poses heavy burden not only on local scale, but also to global climate.

Currently in 2022, there are 32 megacities in the world, housing around 545mil people. As human population and urbanization continues, the projection for megacities in 2030 will be 39, with current megacities population hosting more people at the same time.

Megacities is an ongoing trend across the globe. Nevertheless, we have to dealt with the problems to have a better organize and planning to counter the issue around. We are on the era of Anthropocene, which human activities influences are inevitable. Especially under current situation we are facing a dire scenario dealing with climate change.

Therefore, as a conclusion for the course, this is an interesting topic to pick up and discuss about the implication of using Climatology to resolve this question.
